MIDDLE SCHOOL

Principal's message

It is my greatest pleasure and honor to serve a school community with a tradition of achievement and a reputation for its outstanding academic rigor and international standards of education – a school characterized by solid core values, supportive families and dedicated faculty members committed to the achievement of every student.

Likewise, I am committed to supporting the development of a nurturing school community that values excellence by actively applying educational practices that are grounded on researched-based and classroom-tested approaches which recognize and caters to learners at different stages of development, with diverse learning styles, needs and language backgrounds. Moreover, I am constantly striving to engage our students on reflecting on their own learning processes, in developing the ability to apply knowledge to real-life situations and to understand that an important aspect of gaining knowledge is to put it to the service of others. Hence, I have high academic expectations and strives to foster engagement, stewardship and well-rounded individuals.

I grew up in the Gatineau/Ottawa region in Ontario, Canada.  I come from a diverse family background, and in addition to Canada I have lived in Brazil, Mexico, France and China, and have traveled extensively with my family.  I hold a Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching English from Concordia University in Montreal where I also completed a Bachelors of Arts with a major in History. Additionally, I have a Masters in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education in Indiana, and true to my commitment to life-long learning, I am currently a doctoral student – my current research focuses on the correlations between Native-American academic achievement and school accreditation.

I know it sounds cliché, however, I am truly passionate about my work in education. Prior to becoming a teacher and school leader, I had the privilege of working for the Canadian Public Service where I served as Senior Communications Advisor for Agriculture and Heritage Canada where I implemented strategies aimed at providing the best possible service to Canadians using developing technologies such as the internet. As an educator, I still consider myself a public servant and I am here to serve our students and our school community.

I feel truly privileged to be able to contribute towards children’s education and throughout my educational career, I have had the great joy of working and serving students at outstanding international school communities. Most recently, I led schools in Doha, Bahrain, and the Philippines. In addition, I have worked in Canada, South Korea, China, Indonesia, Malaysia and Tanzania in various leadership capacities and as IB DP/MYP and IGCSE teacher, DP Coordinator, IB examiner, University Academic Counselor, and Accreditation Coordinator.

I am the proud father of an eight-year-old daughter and believes that once a teacher always a parent.

Warm regards,

Marcos Ferreira, M.Ed.,
Middle School Principal
